DOM Tubing Size for Steering/Suspension Links

Post by CLBJeep »

Looking for some general opinions on the DOM tubing size for tie rods & trac-bars. I ordered 1.5" x .25" (Wall) DOM tubing to make a new front trac-bar and tie rod for my TJ. The tubing looks like it will fit just fine even with full compression of the suspension on the driver side where things get tight. Is this size DOM too big? What are some of you running on your Jeeps? Running a D30 up front for reference. Just about ready for MOAB!!! :D Thanks

That's the exact size I'm running and typical for steering gear. So you done good.

Just as a follow up. If your purchasing tubing for suspension links, 1.5" x .25" wall is okay for upper links but you should go bigger for the lowers, at least 1.75" x .250" wall if not bigger. There is more stress on the lowers along with dragging and banging them across stuff which puts the weight of the vehicle on the links which will bend them. I have bent all of my lowers and replaced them all with heavier tubing.

Curious, where did you order the DOM from?

Got the tubing from RuffStuffSpecialties.com. I was ordering heims too, and they had the best price on tubing that I could find even with shipping. Good company to work with too. Very responsive on order updates, tracking, etc. As with any tubing purchase, the more you get the better off you are for shipping cost. The price to ship one piece is the same as shipping 4 pieces. I ordered a 48" & 36" 1.5x.25(wall). They also will cut to desired lengths too and adjust the price accordingly.

Clinton,

Thanks for the site, there pricing looks better than the price at www.metalsdepot.com for the same sizes. Will have to see how they do on full stick when I need it.
