Re: Snorkel
Naramores exhaust next to club chub in east peoria did a good job on mine. Unless your going scuba diving, no need for a snorkel. Not sure anyone in the club has one. Although Kenny Wright could have used one last Saturday, LMAO ! HURRY,I'm TAKING ON WATER !¡!!

Re: Snorkel
To be clear, if your exhaust system is toast, that has nothing to do with installing a snorkel. A snorkel is for raising the air intake higher to avoid sucking water into the engine, which would only happen if you get into something approaching hood-high water. Personally, I don't like getting soaked from the chest down when I'm wheeling, so I avoid high water and I therefore don't have a snorkel. I've also read that snorkels make your engine a little louder, as you are moving the intake outside of the engine bay and up closer to the passengers... essentially piping the engine noise up there too. So keep that in mind.
Someone might correct me for saying this, but I don't think it's necessary to raise the exhaust output up high unless you are doing water-cross competitions in your rig. Unless you're in pretty deep, exhaust gas pressure is enough to keep the water out of the system even when the tailpipe is submerged, and it makes a cool sound when it's burping out from a few inches of water.

Re: Snorkel
Dave - you're right, unless the engine shuts down while the exhaust outlet is submerged.

Re: Snorkel
Well that is true. I knew someone would correct me.
Re: Snorkel
Since I had my jeep it was loud from the beginning, I don't think the snorkel will change the loudness that drastically. I just hate stopping at the light and hearing this annoying rattle:)
I always wanted to install the snorkel, couple of my buddies have them on theirs. Looks kinda cool.

Re: Snorkel
So if I want to join the club or at least meet some of you, do I have to come over to the first Sat of the months to Pekin IL or you guys hang out somewhere else?

Re: Snorkel
Since it is nice out, our meeting locations change for the summer months. May's meeting is at Our Inn Place in Pekin. It starts at 6:00. It is this Saturday (May 2).

Re: Snorkel
I don't like the fact that a hole needs to be cut in the tub, to install one. I wouldn't want one, nor have I felt the need for a snorkel. I've been thru some deep water also.SNM1001 wrote:Since I had my jeep it was loud from the beginning, I don't think the snorkel will change the loudness that drastically. Re: Snorkel
On the list of mods I could spend money on, a snorkel has never made it onto my list. It will do nothing to improve the performance of your Jeep off road. You money would better spent on tires, lifts, lockers etc.
That said, if you want a snorkel, don't let me or anyone else talk you out of it.
