O-Rings in power steering lines

Post by wdln »

So I'm replacing my CJ's leaky power steering gearbox, and I ended up having to heat the fluid connections up a bit with a torch to get them out. They did loosen up and they look OK, but I can't tell (or remember, from the last time I had it apart) if there was supposed to be an O-ring on either of the connections (pressure side or return). If there was one, I think it burned up with the torch. Anyone know if there should be one there, or is it more like a metal-on-metal brake line fitting?

It depends on the year for the o ring vs flare. I'm thinking the change was '81.
You should be able to tell by the fittings.
