my new cj7
Re: my new cj7
Fraser, a better question would have been what part of the bracket wasn't cracked.

Re: my new cj7
So what I learned today...
New seatbelts should have taken an hour at most in a perfect world.
In my world it took about 8. No amount of kroil was helping. Welded bolts to bolts only to have them snap too.
Trying to figure out someone else's wiring is crazy. I'm worse off now than I am when I started.
I learned that I'm going to pay someone to fix the wiring. It is cheaper that way!
I didn't get to the console or the stereo or the roll bar pads.

Re: my new cj7
Ok, so I learned that I couldn't have someone else fix my jeep.
I took it to a guy then the next day went and got it.
I'm a freaking electrician! There is no way I could live with someone fixing electrical problems on my vehicle.
I needed to do it myself.
I did get it fixed. Found a hot wire grounded to the body and the parking lights were wired backwards. I added ground for the housings and removed the ground for headlights and refurbished them. I then added another ground from the grill and tied it all to the negative of the battery.
Everything works as it should now.

Re: my new cj7
So a lot of overtime and I haven't had much time to work on the cj.
I still haven't tackled the caster shims. I have sets for both the front and rear.
I have busted 2ujoints because of the angle. The mounts for the transfer case and transmission are loose and there is one mount that bolts to the skid plate that looks like a bolt with 2 urethane bushings that holds the rear of the transfer case to the skid plate is worn out. I can't find it at any of the parts stores and the one I found online doesn't have the bushings.
If it is nice enough over the weekend I want to try to get some of the work done and see if I can't get it road worthy.
I hope everyone has a merry Christmas and look forward to joining the club next month.

Re: my new cj7
So recently I dropped the rear axle and installed shims to correct the drive line angles.
It was pretty straight forward but I was nervous seeing how I haven't done anything like this before.
I had new u bolts made in Peoria rather than order them on line. They made them while I waited.
Now there is only about a one degree of angle. I'm told that is good. It will actually make the caps on the u joint turn.
The vibration issues have disappeared.
Today I ripped the dash out to repair the Speedo lights. It cascaded and I ended up doing the heater upgrade. I was extremely nervous about tearing apart the heating system and having to drive it in the morning to work.
It was actually really straight forward. It did take me about 5 hours. I did run into one problem that is worth mentioning. The motor that is mentioned (73 blazer w/ 350) has 2 versions. Regular and heavy duty. There 2 different part numbers. The one you want to use is the regular duty. The heavy duty one has a long shaft and will not work.
The hole I cut was a little rough but with the sealant around the new installed motor you cannot tell.
I cannot believe the difference the new motor made. It actually really heats the jeep! Every cj should have this done!
I was surprised that everything came apart and went back together without breaking anything.
Today was a good day.

Re: my new cj7

Which if I remember right, is the same one used in the YJs.vlucdog wrote:I'm glad it went well, that motor is a Siemens PM 103 in case any one else wonders.

Re: my new cj7
Yes the 103 number is correct. From what I read (afterwards) was that it is a crap shoot as far as the shaft length with that motor. Due to Chevy not having any space restrictions like we have. So it is worth checking this before leaving the store.
